The story of the extraordinary Trespaldum Oil started with Francesco Mastrangelo – an agricultural entrepreneur from the small, ancient village of Mafalda – when he discovered a number of olive groves on the hills of the Molise region, near the Adriatic Sea. Even after much research and genetic testing at various universities no one was able to place this ancient type of olive anywhere on the 400+ strong official register of Italian olives – probably because for centuries these olives were not commercially harvested as they were so small there was no profit to them! And so Francesco registered and patented the name of his olive variety: Gentile (kind) of Mafalda. A few years after – with several awards under his belt – he decided to marry up his Gentile olives with the white truffles that the Molise region is famed for – and the result is this rare and unique olive oil which is now being introduced for the first time in the UK!
Tasting Notes: This is truffle-forward olive oil – the gentle, rounded flavour of the olive oil lets the truffle take center stage. The white truffles push the scent forward and infuse both nose and mouth with a strong truffle flavour.
